Pops Was Tops
Recently, Michael Pusateri (Pops) Pastor’s father and Shirley’s life long friend and husband, relocated to Heaven. We were all saddened at the news, but Pops is healed and happy. It won’t be long before he will be ready to show all of us our new homes. Pops had been ill for some time. We often referred to him as the come back kid. He bounced back from a heart attack and stroke nearly ten years ago. More recently he had internal issues, which kept everyone quite busy, and to which there seemed to be no end. As Shirley is part of the prayer team, she often shared things with us that happened around the house. The following in particular has everlasting sweet memories for me:
Shirley had been at the church for prayer with the team. Often she would linger in town shopping, picking up prescriptions, etc. before returning home. When she got to the house, she found Pops “beaming.” He had his tools out and had fixed the garage door. He was so happy with himself, and rightfully so. He was still the handyman for his bride of 58 years. Shirley was “beaming” too. This was probably a month before he went home to Heaven. While fixing the garage door, he got dirty and greasy. It was early in the afternoon, however Shirley suggested that Pops go ahead and take his bath. He gladly agreed and headed for the shower. When he came out, he was in his pajamas. Dressed in pajamas was unexpected but very significant.
This was such a sweet memory, because Pops had accomplished a great deed. He came out in his pajamas because he was finished for the day. He was ready for Rest Mode, even prior to supper. When Pops went to Heaven, he was finished. He had accomplished a great deed. He had run his race and finished in Victory. He is in Rest Mode.
Father, we thank you for allowing us to have Pops in our lives. We thank You for the wonderful memories we have of your servant Pops. Our memories of his tambourine, his fervent prayer, his flags, his victory marches, and calling on others to celebrate with dancing, his desire to worship You and make you famous and popular in the earth. He did all of this with Grace. Thank You for Pops!!!
I Cor. 15:52-55 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be bought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. Or death, where is they sting? O grave, where is thy victory? I Thes. 13-18 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God and the dead in Christ shall rise first; Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
